Group Size: Multiple groups of 4 – 5 Key Stages: KS2, KS3, KS4, KS5 Team Building Skills: Planning, Strategy, Communication
Bridge Build is a great team building activity for generating ideas and putting them into practice.
The students will need to be put of groups of approx 4-5.
Each group will need to be given exactly the same resources. The same amount of newspaper sheets and the same amount of cellotape. New rolls are easiest. If newspaper sheets are different sizes each group should get the same amount of each size. This makes the challenge as fair as possible.
Bridge Build is as it suggest building a bridge. The teams will need to build a bridge from the resources that can span a distance of 1 metre. The bridge should be approx 30cm wide. The bridge will also need stanchions Pillars) so that it is supported on either side of the 1 metre gap.
The instructor / teacher will also need to explain to the students that once the bridges are created, if successful they will move to the next stage which is which bridge can hold the most weight. Books are suitable for this.
It is wise to set a time limit on this challenge.
Groups will need to plan effectively as this is a tricky challenge.
