Marshmallow towers requires small groups of 4 – 5 participants to work together as a team to build the tallest tower that they can.
Â
Each group will be given some marshmallows, some spaghetti, and a pair of scissors. Each group will need exactly the same amount of marshmallow and spaghetti pieces for a fair competition.
Â
You will also need a tape measure to measure the towers when complete.
Â
How each team designs and builds their tower is up to them. They are allowed to break the spaghetti and chop the marshmallows as they wish. The tower must be freestanding.
The participants must be encouraged to plan carefully to give themselves the best chance of success. Once spaghetti pieces or marshmallows have been cut it will be impossible to reattach them together.
Â
It is sensible to set a time limit for marshmallow towers. At this point the towers can then be measured. Once a winning team has been declared the facilitator can sit down with the participants and talk about where they struggled and how they overcame these difficulties to succeed in their goal.
